Ribes uva-crispa 'Little Ben' is a well behaved, compact, thorny, dwarf gooseberry shrub. Blooms are insignificant yellow-green followed by plentiful large fruit that ripens from green to pink then red in mid-summer. Fruit is sweet and flavourful with tart skins. May be eaten fresh, processed for preserves, or used in baking. Gooseberries are highly nutritious and are particularly high in vitamin A and phosphorus. They are self-fertile and extremely hardy. Fruit is borne on younger branches. Prune during dormancy. Removed first year's blooms to encourage root establishment. Deer resistant.
