Description Fine Print

Adiantum pedatum is the beautiful northern maidenhair fern. Fronds are atypical for ferns in that they are palmate -- like a hand with fingers that are held on rigid, wiry, reddish-brown to black stems. The fronds themselves are finely textured and somewhat frilly and usually lax to arching, more so than its close relative the western maidenhair, A. aleuticum. A native of eastern North America frequently found on deeply shaded steep banks and cliffs. A beautiful specimen for the garden and quite amenable to average garden soils in full to part shade. Possibly hardy to zone 2.
