Description Fine Print

Allium ampeloprasum, or wild leek, is the species from which leeks, elephant garlic, pearl onions, kurrat (Egyptian leek), and tareh (Persian leek) have been derived from. It can make an imposing ornamental statement in the garden with flower scapes rising up to 4-6 feet high. Flowers can be pink, reddish or white. This species is native to the Mediterranean basin and the Middle East. Over centuries of cultivation, it has been introduced and naturalized over a wider range.
