Asparagus officinalis 'Mary Washington' is a heirloom, female selection that produces large, green stalks earlier than other cultivars. Very easy to grow, disease resistant and delicious. Be patient and leave this perennial vegetable to develop during the first year. Harvest from year two and onward. Use cooked, steamed, pickled and raw. Asparagus is a heavy feeder and needs rich manure or compost along with a regular fertilizing regime. Regular asparagus can take three growing seasons to harvest. Deer resistant.
