Katsura, Cercidiphyllum japonicum, is a medium to large tree native to China and Japan with a beautiful shape and lovely, small, heart-shaped leaves that emerge flushed with burgundy, age to blue-green, and then turn shades of pink, red, orange and yellow in autumn when the leaves can give off a lovely burnt caramel aroma. It has inconspicuous flowers. Trees will typically reach 40-50 feet over time. 'Rotfuchs', which is German for "red fox", is a special cultivar with burgundy foliage that turns blue-green by mid summer. It will likely grow from half to three quarters the height of the species. For the 2024 Rare Flowering Tree Pre-Order plants will be in 1g pots and about 2-3 feet tall.
