Ficus carica 'Violette de Bordeaux' is a dwarf to compact tree that grows just 5-10 feet tall making it easy to grow in a container and up against a sunny wall. It's also hardy to zone 6! The fruit is purple black and lusciously rich and sweet. It was apparently discovered around 1680 growing in the gardens of Versailles but is also claimed by Provence and Marseilles. Reliable and productive but you must grow it in the hottest spot you have. Great for fresh eating, preserves, and drying.
