Just looking at 'Volcanic Glow' you can almost smell the smoke and feel the heat of smoldering brimstone. The intricately ruffled flowers offer rich shades of burgundy red and aureolin yellow with white and yellow beards surrounded by a white hot glow. Stems are usually three-branched with up to eight buds per stalk. Blooms in the mid season. Tall Bearded (TB) irises, previously known as Iris germanica, have greyish strap-like, pointed leaves from fleshy rhizomes and tall stems of gorgeous, often fragrant, flowers that come in every colour of the rainbow. Divide every two to three years (or when clumps become congested and flowering decreases) just after blooming. Trim the foliage back to a third and plant the rhizomes at or just below soil level. Deer and rabbit resistant.
