Iris japonica is rare species known as fringed or crested iris. It has delicate, orchid-like flowers that display ruffled white petals with fringed margins with pale blue markings and prominent yellow crests on the falls. Flowers are 2 inches in diametre and bloom late spring to early summer. The evergreen foliage is thin with sword-shaped basal leaves that grow in fans with downward arching tips. Naturalizes easily without being invasive. Use in beds, borders, rock gardens, and containers. Deer resistant. Possibly hardy to zone 6. Photo: Wikipedia.
