Musa thomsonii also known as Bhutan or Thomson's banana, is a rare, cold-tolerant, subtropical, fruit-bearing, edible banana from the Himalayas that is also prized as an ornamental. The yellow flowers are protected by large, dark red bracts. Fruits mature to a dark yellow and are sweet with seeds. The leaves are large, paddle-shaped with new leaves revealing a reddish underside. Plants can reach up to 15 feet in its native habitat - shorter in your garden. Young plants appreciate partial shade. Provide moist well-drained soil with heat, sun and humidity. Very pretty and fun to grow.
