Opuntia basilaris var. brachyclada 'San Bernardino' is derived from the rare and endangered beavertail prickly pear cactus that comes from San Bernardino County. The cylindrical pads are blue-grey with lots of short spines and huge, bright pink, cup-shaped flowers that emerge from late spring to early summer. Its growth habit can average 12 inches tall with a spread of 3 to 4 feet. Plant in full sun in sharply draining soil. Protect from winter rain on the West Coast.
