Description Fine Print

Opuntia humifusa (Dwarf from Claude Barr) is an Eastern Prickly Pear native to eastern North America east of the Rockies including Ontario. It is a prostrate plant comprised of relatively large and flattened blue-green coloured pads which are nearly spineless. We're not sure what is "dwarf" about this form. Large and ruffled golden yellow flowers are produced in summer with bright orange eyes which are followed by deep red fruit which persists all winter. Both the pads and fruit are edible and tasty. Growth habit is 6-8 inches high by 24 to 36 inches wide. Awesome in planters or as spillers. Easy to grow in well-drained soil.
