Plains prickly pear (Opuntia polyacantha) is found from the Canadian prairies south to northern Mexico. 'Imnaha Sunset' has pretty, semi-double ruffled flowers in lemon-yellow with dark orange centers and lighter orange stamens appearing in the early summer. Pads are round to oval in varying lengths from 1 - 4 inches with dense, orange spines up to 2 inches long. Growth habit is 4 to 12 inches tall and up to 24 inches wide. Polycantha means 'many thorns'. Plant in full sun in sharp draining soil.
