Bowiea volubilis is a cool oddity called climbing onion that sits like an onion bulb on top of the soil all winter and then, in early spring, begins to grow a twining stem of lacy leaves that will climb or scramble up nearby plants or supports. An easy to grow houseplant or greenhouse plant that thrives on neglect. Foliage will begin to turn yellow in fall. Stop watering at this time until you see new growth in the spring.
