Rheum rhabarbarum 'Glaskin's Perpetual' is a sweet, heritage variety of culinary rhubarb known for its reliability and heavy production. The stalks are thick, soft, juicy and less tart with a more pronounced green tinge to its red stalks. Due to its low levels of oxalic acid, harvesting can continue later into summer and early autumn than other cultivars. Use the stalks as you would fruit in the production of preserves and desserts. Remove the large leaves and discard before cooking. Bold spikes of white flowers emerge in summer and should be removed to encourage more foliage growth. Makes for a beautiful ornamental as well in a sunny flower bed. Do not harvest until the second year. Deer resistant.
