Rubus ursinus 'Black Satin' is a thornless blackberry grown for its prolific crop of deliciously sweet and juicy, deep blue-black berries in midsummer. Small, soft pink flowers appear on second year, semi-erect canes 5 to 6 feet tall. Requires some support. Fruits are produced on second year canes called floricanes. Prune these canes back every fall during dormancy. Provide organically rich soil that is well drained with even moisture. Attracts bees and birds.
