Strumaria are dainty members of the Amaryllis family known as Cape snowflakes and are closely related to Hessea. They are rare in the wild known only from restricted populations. They have star-shaped or upward-facing bell-shaped flowers, some of which are fragrant. S. truncata White Form has beautiful outward-facing or nodding clusters of white, fragrant, funnel-shaped flowers with yellow stamens in fall. The fan of strap-shaped, tongue-like leaves are lightly twisted one to three times and are nicely ornamental. They emerge at or after flowering and remain in growth through to spring. Easy to grow in pots in a free-draining mix. Collect the copious seeds and plant immediately to build your colonies. Reduce watering when dormant in summer but do not allow to go bone dry. Plant the bulbs with the top level with the soil surface. This is a non-hardy bulb that can be grown as a houseplant or in a heated greenhouse or sunroom. It's perfect for those interested in bulbs and houseplants and for succulent lovers looking to branch out. Our nursery-grown bulbs are adult blooming size.
