Description Fine Print

Styrax obassia, known as the fragrant snowbell, is a larger lesser-known relative of the Japanese snowbell, Styrax japonicus. It has much larger, rounded, almost tropical-looking, fuzzy leaves and superb, pendulous, fragrant white flowers with yellow centres held in dangling, 8 inch long racemes in early summer. Attractive green fruits persist into winter. Older trees develop smooth grey bark that exfoliates to reveal a pretty orange inner layer especially valued for winter interest. It has a pyramidal shape 20-30 feet high and 15-20 feet wide.
