For a galanthophile, Galanthus 'Godfrey Owen' is a distinctive and highly desirable prize. Whereas snowdrops usually have three large outer petals and smaller inner petals, this cultivar has six symmetrical outer petals and six smaller inner petals with green markings. The look is decidedly different and looks a bit like a lampshade in the winter garden. Snowdrops are a harbinger of spring that bloom in late winter, often breaking through the snow. Their pendulous pure white flowers often have green markings, the small subtleties of which along with the variation in petal shapes beguile many gardeners who, having fallen down the rabbit hole, are known as galanthophiles. Beware! You could be next.
