Phlox paniculata 'Jeana' was a standout in the tall garden phlox trial at the Mt. Cuba Centre. It was extremely resistant to powdery mildew, grew to a generous five feet tall, bloomed from midsummer into fall, and had the most pollinator visits of any phlox. Butterflies and hummingbirds went crazy for its copious nectar. Interestingly, despite the high nectar production the flowers are quite small offering a different look for a tall garden phlox: beautiful, but more like a wildflower than a flouncy garden perennial. It's such a great plant that it has been recognized as the Perennial Plant of the Year for 2024.
