Brunsvigia litoralis is a dramatic species similar to B. josephinae known as surfers candelabra. It grows to about two feet tall with up to 18 upright, twisted, bluish-green leaves and open, Allium-like clusters of 20-40 deep coral pink to coral red flowers. It flowers from February to April in its native habitat and from August to October in the northern hemisphere. The leaves emerge after flowering through fall and winter forming an impressive specimen. Keep lightly watered to dry when dormant in summer. Plant the large bulbs with the neck protruding above the soil. This is a non-hardy bulb that can be grown as a houseplant or in a heated greenhouse or sunroom. It's perfect for those interested in bulbs and houseplants and for succulent lovers looking to branch out. Our nursery-grown bulbs are adult blooming size as of 2022 which is about 10 years old.
