Poncirus trifoliata 'Snow Dragon' is the variegated form of the contorted trifoliate orange known as 'Monstrosa' or 'Flying Dragon'. It has beautiful, small, variably variegated leaves mixing rich green with white and creamy white. Every leaf is different. The stems and thorns are also variegated. As a variegated plant, it will be slower growing and make an excellent container specimen or even a bonsai. We also expect that it will be slower to flower and fruit but wonder if the fruit might also be variegated! The hardy trifoliate orange is a citrus relative that is a thorny, well-branched, deciduous shrub or small tree. The leaves may fall at any time and plants will continue photosynthesizing through their stems. The flowers are white and fragrant. The yellow to light orange fruit are almost the size of a golf ball and very pretty in the late afternoon light. They are generally considered inedible though they can be used for marmalade or dried and powdered and used as a condiment.
