Iris x hollandica or Dutch iris are beautiful hybrids for hot sunny locations. 'Lion King' offers burgundy purple standards with contrasting deep yellow falls etched with burgundy purple veins. Dutch iris make great cut flowers. Plant them in a location with well-drained to dryish soils where they can bake in the summer months when dormant. Overplant with ground covers like thyme, Sedum and Delosperma.
