Description Fine Print

Cyrtanthus obliquus is a highly desirable South African bulb known as giant cyrtanthus or Knysna lily. It flowers in late spring and summer at 12-24 inches high with clusters of 6-12 pendulous, tubular flowers that are fiery red grading to yellow and green at the tips. It is an amaryllis relative with somewhat broad, slightly twisting, ornamental. blue-green leaves. In its native habitat it grows in coastal grasslands with summer rainfall. Allow it to dry out between deep waterings when in growth and keep dry when dormant in winter. Can remain evergreen if kept warm and with some moisture in winter. Plant with two thirds of the bulb above ground. Best to protect from freezing. Our nursery-grown bulbs are 3 years old as 2023 and will reach adult blooming size at about 8 years.
