Iris x hollandica or Dutch iris are beautiful hybrids for hot sunny locations. 'Sapphire Beauty' has beautiful lavender blue standards and royal blue falls with a bright yellow dot. Dutch iris make great cut flowers. Plant them in a location with well-drained to dryish soils where they can bake in the summer months when dormant. Overplant with ground covers like thyme, Sedum and Delosperma.
