Verbena stricta, the hoary vervain, offers beautiful spikes of densely-packed lavender flowers from early summer to fall. It is a vigorous, clump-forming perennial with attractive grey-green leaves. The flowers are popular with butterflies and the plants are a larval host for certain butterfly species. Birds appreciate the seeds. Drought tolerant. Likely hardy to zone 3 but certainly to zone 4.
